Year 10

Head of Year: Mrs L Kelly

It is my pleasure to write to you as Head of Year 10 at Chadwell Heath Academy.  Pupils in the Year Group have just commenced the most crucial years of their school career so far.  As Head of Year, I will endeavour to guide and support each pupil to ensure that they reach their full potential.

As both a teacher and pastoral lead, I have come to know this Year Group as ambitious, bright and resilient.  They have proved that they always try their best, which has certainly been reflected in their fantastic SATs results last year.  This year is an opportunity for pupils to approach school with their futures in mind.  This should be reflected in positive and mature participation in lessons, and a resolve to pursue opportunities in the wider school community.

I expect this year to see Year 10 take responsibility for their learning and take pride in their school community. This includes arriving to school properly prepared for the day, aiming for 100% attendance, being punctual throughout the school day, and maintaining positive relationships with peers and staff.  In addition, I would like to reiterate the importance of school uniform.  Each pupil is required to wear the full required uniform.  Full guidance can be found on the school website.

As parent/carer, I look forward to working with you to ensure the best year ahead for your child.  You play a vital role in the education of your child.  Your encouragement and support can help them excel.  I am sure that you will agree that effective communication between home and school is one of the best ways to support pupils.  I hope that you will find the information below useful as we start the new year.

Year 10 Parents’ Evening is scheduled for Wednesday 10th May 2023.  This will follow the issue of Year 10 Examination results.  It is extremely important that you attend.  The evening will give you the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and facilitate further support needed as they approach their final GCSE year.

A key event in the Year 10 calendar is Work Experience, which commences on Monday 10th July.  We highly recommend that pupils use the opportunity to research and enquire into careers of interest to them.  Pupils will be guided in Citizenship lessons on how to approach companies about work experience and further information will be sent home in the autumn term.

If at any point you have queries regarding your child’s progress, please contact the relevant subject teacher or their Form Tutor in the first instance.  Please do not hesitate to contact me however, if you feel the matter requires my direct involvement.  I will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your on-going support to ensure the very best for your son/daughter. I hope they enjoy the new challenges this year and participate in all the school has to offer.  I wish them every success as they start their GCSE courses.
