Our Football Activators have been on an incredible journey since being selected to complete their Barclays GAME ON Leadership training in year 8 which uses football as the tool in secondary schools across England to develop and teach key life skills and demonstrate how those transferrable skills can be used outside of school in everyday life.
The programme gives opportunities to girls to get involved with football. From coaches to marketeers – they run, organise, and deliver sessions for their classmates, introduce and encourage more girls to play football, whilst developing themselves for the future.
Our Football Activators have helped to promote and run extra-curricular Football clubs at lunch and after school, they have help coach teams and referee interform Football games as well as demonstrating their leadership ability at Football events ran with local primary schools in Redbridge.
On the day the Prime Minister announced that every girl in England is set to be given equal access to football and school sport as part of an all-sports pledge, meeting one of the FA’s key strategic objectives, our Footballer Activators were chosen to lead the #LetGirlsPlay Biggest ever football session at Frenford FC and did an INCREDIBLE JOB!
They lead multiple sessions for the year 3&4 primary students and were interviewed throughout the day from multiple TV stations questioning them on their journey playing football, challenges they’ve faced due to inequality and how they have benefited from their experiences as Football Activators.
They also got the opportunity to play football with the legendary Arsenal and England players Ian Wright and Kelly Smith, meet Sue Campbell Director of Women’s Football for The FA and we had a very special visit from the Lionesses England Manager and Coach Sarina Weigman.
The girls were incredible role models, pathing the way for our younger generation of footballers and should be very proud of themselves, as we all are here at Chadwell Health Academy.
